Differences Between Cloud and On-Premises Datasources

This article highlights the differences between cloud and on-prem Datasources within BrightGauge. Please note that if you move from an on-prem Datasource to a cloud Datasource or vice versa, you must manually migrate your existing data within BrightGauge (including gauges, reports, dashboards, etc.). There is no automatic way to migrate data between Datasources. For migration instructions, please refer to this how-to video.

Note: As mentioned in the video, you may come across instances in which there are fields that are not present in the new datasets because we either do not have access to them in the API or they were fields that you requested us to add for you. Items such as views, custom tables, or Extra Data Fields do not work with the Automate Cloud database. In such cases, make notes of the fields that you want to be added during the migration and let us know which fields you want added and which datasets you want the fields added to. Assuming we have access to those fields, we will do our best to add those in for you.

General Differences

On-prem Datasources allow you to more easily access your data. This ease of access allows you to create custom datasets/queries and add custom fields to your datasets. On-premises Datasources can also retrieve older data than cloud Datasources.

The following table displays the differences between all cloud and on-prem Datasources.

Feature Cloud On-Prem
Ability to Create Custom Datasets/Queries No Yes
Max. Date Range Limited by API in Use Customizable as you have direct database access
Data Parity Limited by API in Use Customizable as you have direct database access
